Grace is Multilingual and has been known to speak Russian, French, Italian, and Spanish besides English and is known to speak an additional but lesser used language as well. She is known to be a master martial artist, with Whitehall having considered her to be one of the best killers. This has often been used to take down multiple opponents at the same time. She has managed to defeat multiple people whose strength surpassed hers, even defeating the enhanced Centipede Soldiers.

Grace is an extremely accurate marksman skilled in sharpshooting and sniping. John Garrett recommended her to take this course in the Academy after having spent time in the woods using this skill to hunt for food. She infamously made a 1000 yard shot although it has been claimed to be 2000 yards. She is trained in espionage, stealth, disguise and infiltration which only aided her as a secret HYDRA agent inside SHIELD. When taking a Lie Detector test, she put splinters of cable wire under her nail to confuse the sensors. She is also an accomplished pilot able to fly small aircraft's as well as large ones such as the bus.

Known to be an expert tactician, when she suspected that S.H.I.E.L.D. was pursuing her after escaping she correctly assumed they would send agents that she wouldn’t recognize. However she had prepared with a fake ‘dead mans switch’ and and explosives to stop them killing her on sight. She quickly made Bobbi Morse as a SHIELD agent and spotted Trip at the bus station. Following Kara Palamas death she decided to rebuild HYDRA and started with only a small cell of agents and a few names only to rebuild it to dozen of agents under her command.

Childhood

Grace Ward was born in Massachusetts into a rich family although she had a difficult childhood. Her older brother Christian became abusive following years of their mothers abuse. Although the abuse she suffered was often more psychological her older brother infrequently made her hurt their younger brother.

Whilst the abuse had a profound effect on her and her mental state, a particular incident with a great effect was when her older brother threw her younger brother down a well and would not let her help him. Whilst she did eventually help him she got the blame for the incident and her parents covered it up by burying the well and pretending it never happened. This had a lasting effect on her leaving her unsure of her own memories and eventually driving her to violently confront Christian about it as adults.

Alongside the abuse as she grew up, she was made to attend many extravagant parties alongside her siblings in order to showcase their picture perfect family however as she got older Grace found many of her fathers older friends beginning to become inappropriate with her. Unwanted hands on her hips that slid lower every time however she was never able to speak out or refuse under fear of punishment from her parents. It pushed her into exploring her sexuality, unable to ignore how her skin crawled when the boys she had been so familiar with before touched her innocently. 

It was unsurprising that of all the trouble she caused as she spiraled, it was being caught kissing another girl was what had them send her away to boarding school. Upon being sent away she was cut off from money and support beyond what the school needed. This led her to seek a job and after a string of bad ones she eventually got one at a small bar outside of town after blackmailing her way in. A year later at sixteen she met John Garrett and what was a one off job, getting him some information from a customer, impressed him and led to him returning multiple times over a number of weeks. Years of her parents parties providing the experience she needed to dissociate herself and let the bars customers treat her body like a piece of meat so she could earn the money to survive.

Proving herself to be resourceful and unafraid to use anything to her advantage, including her body, led to a working relationship and wary respect between them. When she was locking up the bar a few weeks later, a drunken man she had refused in the bar attacked her in the alley. Getting so far as to hit her head into the wall and rip her dress open, she was less surprised when Garrett arrived and blew out the strangers brains saving her.

Taking her back to his hotel room while she recovered from the shock and pain, the next morning he made her an offer to train her as an agent of SHIELD and she gladly accepted so she would never be left feeling so helpless again. The experience affected how she saw men from then on, especially older men, making it harder for her to trust and develop meaningful relationships.

Becoming a spy

After being left in Wyoming for six months with only clothes and a dog, Garrett returned to find her still there and having a small camp. The next five years were spent in the woods with the dog and frequent visits from Garrett wherein he would train her. 

At twenty one Garrett informed her she had been accepted into SHIELD’s operations academy. She spent ten year in SHIELD as an undercover HYDRA agent and was recruited to Coulson’s team in 2013. Upon the fall of SHIELD she revealed her true allegiance to HYDRA and Garrett to get a hard drive containing information on the GH-25 serum. 

Upon capture by Coulson’s team she spent several months in vault D where she trained and provided information to Skye. After her escape she confronted her brother and in unseen circumstances burned their old home with Christian and their parents inside.

Making a monster

After being left for dead by Skye in Puerto Rico, she was saved by brainwashed agent Kara Palamas. The two spent weeks on the run trying to heal and regain Kara’s memories. The two eventually entered a relationship and were known to have gotten a house together.

After the disappearance of Skye and rise of ‘real SHIELD’ she was sought out by Coulson with his team of Lance Hunter, Leo Fitz and Mike Peterson. When they took Kara hostage she agreed to meet them and then to work with them. 

It was later revealed that they had found out that they had discovered that Bobbi Morse had accidentally been at fault for Kara’s brainwashing by giving up a safe house to keep her cover in HYDRA which she thought was empty when, in reality, Kara was staying there.

They kidnapped and tortured Bobbi to get her to admit it however when Lance Hunter and Melinda May arrived to rescue the agent the couple were tricked which resulted in Grace fatally wounding Kara who died in her arms. 

The end of the story

Following Kara’s death, Grace decided that to get closure she would rebuild HYDRA and cause chaos. Over six months she successfully rebuilt it to a functioning level and despite attempts to kill her from Hunter and May she survived and continued to try and ruin SHIELD for closure. 

However with the activity of the monolith came the reemergence of Gideon Malick who had previously not interfered to her knowledge. Following his instructions she began to try and help reopen the portal to bring Hive back to earth. 

When they finally succeeded Malick arranged for her to go with a team to Maveth to die and provide it with a good host for the coming war. After her team was killed by Phil Coulson she was taken prisoner and following an escape attempt they fought at the end of which he crushed her sternum and therefore killed her. 

Following Fitz’ burning Will Daniels body and weakening Hive it took her as the host as was originally intended and got through the portal in time.
